English teacher William Kauffman and over 110 freshmen to senior students have embarked on an exciting new digital journalism program at Palm Springs High School.  A former columnist at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Mr. Kauffman brings years of storytelling know-how as a professional journalist, copywriter at LV Advertising Agency, and veteran English teacher.  Recently, Mr. Kauffman joined the DIGICOM family through his participation in the 2015 DIGICOM Summer Training Workshops where he began flexing his visual literacy skills in the Beginning Storytelling course.  DIGICOM is thrilled to have the opportunity to support Mr. Kauffman's curriculum and mentor his students throughout the coming school year.

New DIGICOM 2015-16 Theme: “Its About Time”

This year’s theme for the 2015-16 DIGICOM Film Festival is It’s About Time. Beginning with our first Film Festival eight years ago, we have had a different theme each year to help spark creativity. It’s Up to You, Imagine, and On Our Way, have been a few of our past favorites.

Here at DIGICOM we are particularly excited with our choice of theme for this year, “It’s About Time.”  This is one of our themes that can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and we hope that it will tap into our students’ and teachers’ creativity.

Time surrounds us in everything we do. We may simply think of it as a clock with time passing at a defined rate. Time can be thought of as linear, circular, or spiraling back on itself as we make sense of the life around us. Or we can also consider our relationship to time as how we frame the stories of our lives.

Everything is about time. From the moment a seed is planted in the ground, the buzzer goes off to start a race, or a conductor lifts his baton to lead an orchestra, every aspect of life has a story of time related to it.

For us at DIGICOM as we think about time, we know that the time has finally arrived for all teachers and students to incorporate digital storytelling into their curriculum. We are thrilled that so many teachers and students are already engaged in this process, and that so many more are looking to join us as time goes on.

And speaking of time, the DIGICOM Film Festival will be held this year on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.  Submissions are due March 18. 2016.

We can’t wait to see all of the stories that you will share with everyone this year as you explore our new theme…”It’s About Time”!
